Our Dentist
Dr. Jahromi is a doctor of Dental Medicine. He obtained his degree from the University of British Columbia in 1998. Before that, he attended Brock University in St. Catharines, where he obtained an honors degree in biochemistry. Prior to his formal university years, he worked as a dental technician in various dental laboratories. As a team member, Dr. Jahromi travels frequently to Latin America to provide charity dentistry for those less fortunate. At an interview he was asked why he wanted to be a dentist. This is how he answered:
'As a child, I knew of one feeling in my mouth. Pain. I always suffered from toothaches, infections and abscesses in my mouth. I had heard of some special doctors that could help with pain in the mouth. However, my mother never had enough money to take me to such doctors. So she would always give me something to ease the pain, cloves. That kind of numbed up my mouth! When I was fifteen I remember my first visit to the dentist. My mom had saved some 200 dollars which she spent at the dentist. My first visit comprised of a root canal therapy.
Immediately after that visit, I discovered - for the first time in my young life - a new feeling in my mouth, no pain. No pain or abscess or bad taste or pressure of any kind, is what I felt. I also felt that if it had been possible for me to visit the dentist ten years earlier, maybe I would have had ten pain free years up to that moment. That was a very profound moment in a teenager's life. I now believe that indeed it was the deciding moment; from then on, I wanted to be a dentist.'
